Base Editing examines editors that directly convert one DNA base into another through engineered deaminase-Cas systems, typically without creating a conventional double-strand break. The section follows cytosine and adenine editors, editing windows, bystander changes, specificity, delivery and therapeutic use. It is distinct from CRISPR nuclease editing and from Prime Editing: the defining operation is targeted nucleotide conversion rather than DNA cleavage or template-directed sequence rewriting.
