The West Khasi Hills administration is inviting BioE3-aligned ideas from students and innovators. School video entries and written proposals have separate rules and rewards, and both are due October 20.

Entries close at 11:59 pm on October 20, 2026. For some written proposals, the D.E.S.I.G.N. for the BioE3 Challenge could lead to funding as well as national recognition.

The Department of Biotechnology, under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, launched the nationwide challenge to gather ideas aligned with the BioE3 policy. Applicants can choose between two tracks, each with different requirements and rewards.

The available official evidence does not provide subsequent results, application totals, winner announcements, DBT/BIRAC decisions or confirmation that prototype grants were awarded for this challenge.

Two tracks, different rewards

Students in Classes VI to XII must submit a 60–120-second video and a concept brief through the MyGov portal at https://innovateindia.mygov.in/bioe3/. Selected students may receive certificates of merit or appreciation, along with access to DBT/BIRAC incubation facilities. There are no cash awards in this category.

The written-proposal track is open to college students and researchers. Grassroots innovators and members of the public can apply too, with concept proposals of up to 1,500 words. The top 10 solutions will receive Rs 1 lakh each. Winners may also qualify for research and development prototype grants of up to Rs 25 lakh through BIRAC, subject to applicable guidelines.

The MyGov page identified in the available search describes a unified portal for school applications to Veer Gatha 6.0. It does not establish the BioE3 challenge’s rules, deadline or rewards.

District outreach and funding terms

The administration has asked the District School Education Officer to notify government and deficit schools. Private schools are also to be notified.

Colleges and polytechnics have been urged to publicise the challenge. ITIs and district-level agencies have received the same request, along with a call to encourage eligible applicants. Questions can be sent to vk.addanki@nic.in.

Unlike recognition programmes for completed research, such as the Blavatnik Awards, this challenge invites proposals. Selected entrants may be connected with incubation or prototype support.

School students have a defined route to submit an entry and seek recognition. The written-proposal track offers direct cash awards, with possible prototype funding for selected solutions. Applicants should check the eligibility and grant conditions: the larger funding route is possible support, not a guaranteed award for every entrant.

The available official cross-check is limited. The MyGov Veer Gatha page covers a different programme, not BioE3. It does not independently confirm the October 20, 2026 deadline or any later results. The deadline and terms above come from the challenge notice.
